Guess what? One of of my new(er) blogging friends just gave me this award! Yes indeedy, Tayyaba (call her “Tay”!), from Writes2Escape thought I was worthy, and I couldn’t feel more honored.
Beyond the usual “facts about oneself” (you can see mine HERE and HERE), her post responded to Eleven Questions, and I’d like to do those here, as well. Check her answers out; I can only hope mine are as interesting…
- Favorite quote, and why?
“I do not understand the mystery of grace — only that it meets us where we are and does not leave us where it found us.” – Anne Lamott
I discovered her writing at a really important point in my life. I’d just begun taking medication for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and my mind was quiet enough to reconsider the importance of faith in my life, after long believing that I was too “broken” to embrace that side of me.
- One thing about you that people wouldn’t assume by looking at you?
That I eat too much junk food (and, on occasion, enjoy Jack Daniels). - Would you rather forgive something said about you or verbally lash the person who said it?
I’m very forgiving….right after I tear them a new one….. - Something about you that makes you really proud
I’m raising (with my husband) two pretty amazing kids. - A single favorite book you wouldn’t mind reading twice or thrice. Why?
I have to go with five fairly diverse books, all of which I have read more than twice. On Writing Well by William Zinser, When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris, The Shining by Stephen King, The Big House: A Century in the Life of an American Summer Home by George Howe Colt, and Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott - One person whose (God forbid) death would change you? Why?
My father’s….it actually happened over a decade ago and definitely changed me. Beyond the unbelievable loss, it taught me not to take life too seriously, and THAT was a gift. - What’s that which you desire the most from life?
Serenity. - Your favorite word. Yes, word.
I need to share my new favorite PHRASE, here. “Awwww, crud monkeys!”… I heard the kids say it once, and I seem to have adopted as an improvement over “Awww, sh*t”. Now (as in JUST now), I find out that the Urban Dictionary defines it as “south-country slang for ‘poop on a stick'” Nice. Oh well. I still think it sounds like an improvement. - Beauty comes from ______ ?
The inside……and Sephora. - Five things that life is about.
It’s about being grateful, embracing positive relationships, not taking yourself too seriously, playing fair, and always carrying enough money for tolls. - Words for you are?
A good way to empty my head.
NOW, a handful of blogs that I’ve recently fallen in love with. Show them some love….and make sure they post their answers — I’m sure they’ll be great!
Aww! Thanks for the award 🙂 I’m really flattered! I’ve always wanted to read The Shining, never got around to it.
I first read it on a cross-country flight about fifteen years ago — from start to finish. Helped me ignore the fact that I hate flying.
*blushing* gee thank you. So sweet!
You’re very welcome!!!!
Hahahaha, I love your favorite word! 😉 I need to add that in my lingo!
Also, Loved all the answers!
Thanks!! The answers flowed pretty easily — I was surprised…I usually over think everything – ha ha. As far as my “word”, I think I looked at MYSELF funny (if that were possible) the first time I said it!
Congrats! Well done as always. Ummm, crud monkeys? I’ll try that one out. Did you get to read Russo’s That Old Cape Magic yet? I can’t get this out of my head – when Jack Griffin finds a cottage they used to stay at when he was a kid, he’s talking to the current owner who happens to be a writer & she tells him that she’s trying to work “farthammer” into her writing. I’ve been working on an opportunity for that one myself since I read it.
Thank you! No, I haven’t read it yet. I’m SO bad at putting down non-fiction to read fiction. I can actually see it staring at me RIGHT NOW….on the short stack I keep on the family room bookshelf. “Farthammer”, huh? I will think of you when I get to that part. You should definitely read ‘The Big House’ — that I listed as one of my top five to read over and over. It’s non-fiction (mea culpa) but such a fabulous summer home tale.
Okay, downloading to my IPad for vacation – thank you. I don’t think the Cape book was Russo’s best, especially compared to Nobody’s Fool, Bridge of Sighs, etc (I’m now reading an old one of his, Risk Pool). But really, see if you can work farthammer into a sentence…it’s not easy.
I think we both have used it in a sentence, now, several times…just in discussing it here — ha ha!
Thanks So much for the award..I feel honored
You bet! I’ve really been enjoying your blog since I found it 🙂
Well done on the award and I loved your answers!
Congratulations 🙂 yay..
.i eat junk food too..i mean lots of junk food..i shouldn’t though 😉
But it’s SO yummy……
Yay, Sephora! Also, why is poop on a stick so common is has a slang term?
I couldn’t say for sure….. I did some followup research which I can’t even bring myself to share here…….I encourage you to follow the, um, “poop on a stick” trail and see what you learn…
