I know…my enthusiasm for this recipe is underwhelming. My bad. I’m sharing it, though, because I feel confident that my readers who DON’T start the day with Reese’s peanut butter cups and sugar-laden Dunkin Donuts iced coffee (like I am wont to do) will probably LOVE it.
“Berry Nutritious Smoothie” – from The Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook
1 cup orange juice, 1/2 cup fat-free plain yogurt, 1/2 cup silken firm tofu, 1/2 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
Blend until smooth — 1 cup = 80 calories
I will be having another go of this today (I froze it). It IS good for me, and I’m trying not to hold that against it!
You lost me at the tofu… Sorry… But knowing that you love to start your mornings off with PB and chocolate, give this one a try…
1c 1% milk (or skim if you prefer and want to save more calories)
1-2 Tbls Peanut Butter (I use PB2 which is PB powder to save calories and it’s a great!)
1 scoop Choc (or vanilla) protein powder – I use Unjury brand
1/2 a med size banana
Put everything into a blender and whiz it up! It’s a great protein shake to start the day! it really tastes like a chocolate peanut butter shake! This shake definitely has more calories than the shake you listed but it has a powerful punch of protein to keep you going!
Sounds AWESOME! I’ll let you know when I’ve tried it. Hearing from you just reminded me that I have been totally neglecting Squirrel Circus’s FB page. OOPS!
Tofu? Did you say tofu??? You know you can’t leave that in your fridge unattended. Soon as you close the door it mutates.
Gawd, I hope it doesn’t double in size or anything. Already trying to figure out how to get rid of the other 8 oz.
Like all the other comments…tofu? Interesting, I never thought about using it a smoothie.
Apparently (and I say this with no conviction), it is a “great substitute for dairy”…. go figure. Maybe I’ll make some miso soup. That’s my only experience with tofu other than this shake. 🙂
That’s sound delicious and just what I needed, as I am searching for new breakfast options.
Let me know if you try it (and like it!)
do you like the flavor? i’ve never been a fan of tofu…it just kinda grosses me out….but i might try it if someone else on this planet says that this thing actually tastes good =)
Tell you what, I don’t mind the tofu…..the part that I struggle with is the (to me) bitter taste of plain yogurt, so that was my biggest hurdle. I actually bought some Truvia sweetener to go in the second batch and enjoyed it more.
Yay For Smoothie!
I’ll try it pretty soon! The tofu thing kind of threw me off a bit but what the hey, I can experiment with new flavors! 😉
Like I just replied to RadioSilencer…the tofu isn’t the tough part….for me at least 😉
